Controversy erupts as Garnacho celebrates following Amorim dismissal
Alejandro Garnacho has subtly celebrated Ruben Amorim’s sacking as Manchester United manager by liking a social media post confirming the Portuguese coach’s departure. The reaction has drawn attention because of the well documented breakdown in their relationship, which played a decisive role in Garnacho leaving Old Trafford last summer.
The 21 year old Argentine winger joined Chelsea in a £40 million transfer after tensions with Amorim reached a point of no return. While Garnacho had been a key figure for United prior to Amorim’s arrival, problems began to surface just one month into the new manager’s reign. Garnacho was controversially left out of the squad for the Manchester derby, alongside Marcus Rashford, a decision that raised eyebrows inside and outside the club.
Despite that early setback, Garnacho managed to work his way back into the team. Over the course of the season, he made 58 appearances across all competitions and remained one of United’s most dangerous attacking outlets. However, as the campaign deteriorated, so did his relationship with Amorim.
The decisive moment came in the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Garnacho was left on the bench for most of the match, only being introduced late on. After the final whistle, he publicly questioned the decision, suggesting that his limited role could influence his future at the club. Those comments reportedly infuriated Amorim and were seen internally as a challenge to his authority.
According to reports, Amorim later confronted Garnacho in front of his teammates, bluntly telling him he should hope to have a good agent for the summer. Soon after, Garnacho was grouped with several other high profile players who were deemed surplus to requirements, making his exit inevitable.
Garnacho’s fiery personality had long been a talking point during his time at United. On more than one occasion, his visible frustration spilled over, including an incident last season when he stormed down the tunnel after being substituted early for tactical reasons. While Amorim publicly played down those moments, they added to a growing sense that trust between player and manager was fragile.
Now, with Amorim dismissed following internal disputes with United’s hierarchy and a disappointing spell on the pitch, Garnacho’s reaction has been interpreted by many as a quiet moment of vindication. His liking of a post from respected journalist Fabrizio Romano announcing Amorim’s sacking suggests there are no lingering regrets on the winger’s side.
As Manchester United begin yet another reset, the episode highlights the fractured atmosphere that developed under Amorim and the high profile talents who paid the price along the way. For Garnacho, now rebuilding his career at Chelsea, Amorim’s exit appears to have closed a painful chapter.
